I got to meet the Queen in melbourne 2011

The Queen came to Melbourne today for about 4 hours .She arrived at the airport at 11am and the went straight to the Royal children’s hospital to open it. Then onto Ian potter and Federation square at 12.30 Pm today 26/10/2011 .
She wore a beautiful pink suit and made her way down the red carpet accepting flowers from children that lined the red carpet. She happily smiled and spoke to the children and made eye contact with everyone.
I have been to a few red carpets and the Hollywood superstars should take a hint on how to treat those who have lined up for hours to see them.
Apparently 7 women ranging from 30 to 70 needed paramedic help in the hot sun, but they were ok afterwards.
When she came past me she even stopped and let me take a photo and nodded as I said welcome to Melbourne.
The she made her was down to the train and onto lunch.
After I left I suddenly was overwhelmed with the crowds and couldn’t believe the amount of people who were everywhere and on every corner surrounding fed square. They wouldn’t of had a chance to see her as she made her way onto the tram in the opposite direction to the crowds.
there was no Ocupy melbourne people to be seen and only a group of young girls dresssed up in cosplay and clowns singing and making alot of noise.
Certainly today was a moment to remember and one that will not be repented unless by another member of the royal family in the distant future.

As its near Christmas lots of gold trims were in that are not normally in .I wanted the brassy gold rather than yellow gold so was a bit harder for me to find the trims.I sewed the trims onto a piece of fake leather fabric that was to cover the front and attach with Velcro.. I then cut strips and sewed them to the clasp area of corset and waist area ,once it is worn the strips tighten . To put the gold trim in the middle I used stick on Velcro . No it wont last but it can be replaced each time worn .I found this an easy and simple way to make her corset only took me about an Hour.Total cost $208But this can be less with a cheaper wig $93 minus wig

The making of my Dr who Ood costume

We all love a good monster costume to put a bit of terror into out hearts and minds. Who as a kid didn’t at least once creep up behind someone and say boo. Us big kids still love to dress up too and sometimes just whatever takes our fancy at the time.

I know there is some extreme costumer's out there that have their costumes exactly right down to the last thread and the brand of buttons used in the costume replica ,but I don’t always have the funds or time to do this but I still like to at least attempt a costume to the best of my ability.

When choosing an outfit, I like to go for something I know I can sew or buy, fabric that is already available to buy in stores always makes it easier.Of course I like to do something different that’s not to common.

My ood costume.
I’m sure there may be other options for materials out there and some better, but this is what I did to make my costume for those who want to know.

I bought my mask from dream weaver masks in Australia qld http://www.facebook.com/pages/DreamWeaver-Masks/115101578567079?ref=ts $120

I made my suite from fabric bought from spotlight grey cotton drill 7.95 a metre , I bought 3 metres. total cost $23.85
For a pattern I used my own clothes and adapted the pattern, this saved me about $20 on buying a pattern. I used a cd cover for the pattern for the pocket.
I bought a glow light from ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Beautiful-Multicolored-LED-Decorative-Snow-Ball-/120708732238?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1acd154e $4.

Gloves my own I already can be found anywhere
Boots I already had ,and nice tall ones for more effect .
The 2 easiest items anyone would be able to get.

The cord (for odd comunicator )was a $1 from a craft shop.
Total cost $148.85

Time to make mask entire costume ,,, aprox 3 weeks in my spare time , hours would be about 3-4 hours

A fans Guide to Surviving a red carpet

Fan survival guide to the red carpet.

The Glamour of the red carpet is exciting and thrilling especially when it’s an opportunity for any fan to get up close and personal to see their favorite star they have always admired.
So what can you except from a red carpet event when going as a fan?

Most red carpets start at 6.30pm ,the main stars will walk at this time and the attendee stars will generally come first . The main stars of the night will be on the carpet for aprox 1 hour depending on size of venue ,and amount of fans .

When the star starts to walk down the carpet they will sign autographs and some may pose for photographs with fans, if you didn’t get a good photo they will not turn back nor will they if you missed out on an autograph. They may go up one side and then back again the other as they walk by again then they may stop ,but they will not go back and forth once they have walked past your area.
They will then go through to the media area where they will pose for photos and a few interviews. They then generally go into the cinema and introduce the movie where they will then leave the venue.
Depending on the celebrity star power will depend on what you can expect from your red carpet experience. If the celebrity is a teen idol or mass appeal such as lady gaga, you cannot be certain that you will get a photo/autograph even if you have waited up the front for 10 hours.
If the celebrity is not of a wider audience then you can be more confident that if you get there early and up the front your more likely to get an autograph/photo with them .You will know for each event what to expect when you keep this in mind. Most of the time if it’s a local movie or smaller stars attending you will have a more pleasurable experience.

Make your red carpet experience better.

1. Take water/food
2. Don’t drink to much or you will be needing to go to much
3. Take your own entertainment while waiting books/nitendos
4. Take something to sign and a Texta
5. Take 1 or 2 cameras with charged batteries, check your camera for best fast setting
6. Take a buddy for toilet breaks to keep your spot
7. Get a spot up the front near the media area, if not there then front anywhere
8. Be nice to those around you, you may be there a while don’t push and shove
9. Have your item ready to sign and camera don’t be shy or you may miss out
10. Mothers who take children, keep in mind your child may be pushed away, crushed or come away disappointed keep this in mind when making the choice to attend
11. Don’t stand near a gap in the barriers, security will stand there and block your view
12. Wear ear plugs if it’s a teen idol the noise can be deafening
13. Get there early for a teen idol if you want front barrier no later than 1pm if you want to be sure
14. Get there early no later than 4.30 for most red carpets If the event is small then at least an hour early is ok

Links you may like below

Kate Mulgrew was in Melbourne on the weekend along with Tim Russ. Leonard Nimroy also made an appearance live via skype .

Leonard Nimroy was live via skype and answered aprox 5 questions from the Audience. He was asked if he has ever had a request to appear on the big bang theory. He said he had been but declined the offer.Nimroy after Dragon con will no longer be making any more convention appearances .He wont be coming to Australia so it was a great opportunity to see him via Skype .He has been to Australia but so long ago he couldn’t remember when .He spoke about his photography and his new photography collection photographing ones inner self. He asked people to come dressed as their secret self; the results were surprising and can be seen on his web page at the link above. Audience members also had the opportunity to put an order in for an Autograph.

Kate Mulgrew on stage was amazing and a true lady . Her words were poetic and inspiring. She spoke about working on the set of Voyager and how demanding the time was yet she felt it was rewarding .As much as she loved her 2 sons and spending time with them she couldn’t be a stay at home mother and felt it was a positive experience to be a part of star trek voyager .She had no idea of what to except from becoming an icon in the world of star trek, yet she has come to appreciate what she has become a part of and liked the message that came from voyager star trek, that we are all lost and want to belong and believe that unites the fans in some aspect .She spoke about Alzheimer’s , the disease had a hold of her mother who passed away in 2006. She strives to help raise awareness to fund for it.

Kate Mulgrew asked the audience who believed in the lord Jesus as a personal question of interest for herself. I understand America is more in touch with their faith than Australia so this question left the audience a bit silent, yet hands were still displayed.Tim Russ came out at the end of her talk and there was some fun joking banter between them that had the Audience laughing, they were a delight to see together.

Kate Mulgrew was great onstage and very entertaining, she was a true gem. While having photos with fans and autographs she was bright and talkative , anyone who would be considering a convention with her would not be disappointed with her lovely friendly personality.
